October 4, 2014

Welcome to worship at Downey Seventh-day Adventist Church, where we seek to live in and share Jesus' love for all.

This Morning is the kick-off for our "Book of James" small groups. The message is Growing in Christ. As we introduce our small groups this week, we should be challenged to grow in spiritual maturity. James helps us to recognize what that growth looks like, and the goal is to allow God to teach us and for us to be growing every day.

Next Week is Small Groups #1: The message is Dealing with Trials. We will see how we can find blessings in the midst of our struggles. The challenges that we face every day are actually opportunities for growth. According to James 1:12, he writes, "Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him."

Pathfinders.  Our Pathfinder club is  starting up today. Enroll your child to help their spiritual and mental growth. Plus our clubs are great fun!

It's Not Too Late: Join a small group as we study the book of James.  James is a very practical book. It a study that will help your spiritual walk in a very real and tangible way. Sign up for a group in the foyer.

October 18 is Small Groups #2: Doers of the Word -  It is one thing to say we believe, but it is another to live by those beliefs. In James 1:23-24, it writes, "anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like."  The challenge is for us to comprehend and to be convicted by what God is constantly saying to us.

Yard Sale in November.  There will be another Yard Sale in November. So start getting your treasures ready to sell. Proceeds will go to the Pathfinder club.
