Message Notes

What is Important?

Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends. John 15:13

When the whole nation had finished crossing the Jordan, the LORD said to Joshua, Joshua 4:1

"Choose twelve men from among the people, one from each tribe, and tell them to take up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan, from right where the priests are standing, and carry them over with you and put them down at the place where you stay tonight." Joshua 4:2-3

So Joshua called together the twelve men he had appointed from the Israelites, one from each tribe, and said to them, "Go over before the ark of the LORD your God into the middle of the Jordan. Each of you is to take up a stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the Israelites,  Joshua 4:4-5

to serve as a sign among you. In the future, when your children ask you, 'What do these stones mean?'  Joshua 4:6

tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD. When it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever."  Joshua 4:7

So the Israelites did as Joshua commanded them. They took twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan, according to the number of the tribes of the Israelites, as the LORD had told Joshua; and they carried them over with them to their camp, where they put them down.  Joshua 4:8

Joshua set up the twelve stones that had been in the middle of the Jordan at the spot where the priests who carried the ark of the covenant had stood. And they are there to this day.  Joshua 4:9

And Joshua set up at Gilgal the twelve stones they had taken out of the Jordan.  He said to the Israelites, "In the future when your descendants ask their parents, 'What do these stones mean?' Joshua 4:20-21

tell them, 'Israel crossed the Jordan on dry ground.' For the LORD your God dried up the Jordan before you until you had crossed over. The LORD your God did to the Jordan what he had done to the Red Sea when he dried it up before us until we had crossed over. Joshua 4:22-23

He did this so that all the peoples of the earth might know that the hand of the LORD is powerful and so that you might always fear the LORD your God." Joshua 4:24

Next Week the message is God's Masterpiece. Graduations are coming up which means that some will be entering a new stage of life. Hopefully, we can be sure that we are being used for God's "handiwork" in whatever stage of life we are in.

Memorial Day:  The office is closed on Monday in honor of Memorial Day. Remember our soldiers who gave everything for us.

La Sierra University Overview

La Sierra University, an institution nationally acclaimed for its diverse campus and its service to others, offers a transformational experience that lasts a lifetime.

U.S. News & World Report named La Sierra University the most diverse university in the western United States the past five years. And in early 2008 the Corporation for National and Community Service selected La Sierra for the Honor Roll with Distinction, part of the 2007 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll program. The award recognized La Sierra's students for providing nearly 45,000 hours of service. Such efforts included international economic development projects by La Sierra's World Cup-winning Students In Free Enterprise team, and community projects through La Sierra's campus-wide Service-Learning program.

The Seventh-day Adventist denomination established La Sierra University in 1922 on acreage formerly part of the Rancho La Sierra Mexican land grant. Today the institution provides more than 120 bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees for about 2,300 students.

"To Seek, To Know, and To Serve" is the key to the mission that drives La Sierra University, with all areas of campus encouraging students to develop a deeper relationship with God.

La Sierra University, "Where Academic Investigation, Christian Faith and Service to Others Unite," is widely recognized as an exceptional academic institution providing hands-on learning experiences in a safe, nurturing atmosphere.

Affiliated with the Seventh-day Adventist Church, La Sierra is acclaimed for its academic quality, opportunities for research at both the undergraduate and graduate level, community service emphasis, and demographically diverse student body. Students thrive in the small, professor-taught classes where academic topics are investigated and Christian faith is a cornerstone of education.

La Sierra students change the world as they learn. Service-learning courses put classroom knowledge to work helping the community. La Sierra's internationally award-winning Enactus (formerly SIFE)  team has empowered people around the globe.

In addition, many students participate in mission work around the world.

Next Week the message is What is Important? During this Memorial Day weekend, we remember all those that sacrificed their lives in order for us to be free.  We can often forget what truly matters until something or someone is taken away from us. As we show our gratitude to all those that died for our freedom, let us live in a way that also honors their death.

Message Notes

All The Time God is Great

So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. Ephesians 4:17

Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed. Ephesians 4:19

That, however, is not the way of life you learned when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. Ephesians 4:20-21

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God-this is your true and proper worship. Romans 12:1

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds;  and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:22-24

Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body. Ephesians 4:25

Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.  Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Ephesians 4:28-29

Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Philippians 2:1-2

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. Philippians 2:3-4

This Week the message is Mother's Love. The closest comparison of God's love for us may be compared to a mother's love for her child. We will honor our mothers who have shown us what it means to be loved and to be cared for throughout our lives.

Next Week the message is All the Time God is Great. It is easier to be a Christian when we are in church, but what about in our workplaces or schools?  This message will reflect on how to not only let God into every aspect of our lives, it will teach us on how your life can prevail when you let your faith be known where ever you are?

Our Abundant Giving project for April raised $2080 for bark for the AUS playground! Thank you for your donations.
