July 26, 2014

Welcome to worship in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

This Morning is the closing program for VBS. Pastor Cary will close with a sermon, Knowing God, that summarizes what the kids learned through the week.  The VBS theme is called the “Jungle Safari” and it’s a fun way of knowing the nature of God as He is our creator, our provider, our protector, our savior, and our king.

Next Week, Bill brings us the message Myths of Christian Education. The Seventh-day Adventist Church operates the 2nd largest private school system in the world. Our offering and part of our tithe money goes to support Christian Education, so this a topic for all of us. If you talk to enough people, you’ll hear a lot of different opinions about Christian Education not all of which are accurate.

VBS Thanks! There are so many people who help with VBS. From the kitchen to the classrooms, to the crafts, to the registration table, to the music, to the people who help decorate, to the stories and the games; there are just too many names to list them all. But everyone works so hard and puts so much into making sure all the children learn about Jesus. That’s awesome!

We Have An App! Have you checked out our new app yet? You can access sermon audio and videos, read the newsletter, see pictures, read bulletin announcements each week and more. Search for “Downey Adventist Church” on the App Store and on Google Play.

Wednesday Night Fellowship begins on August 6th at 7pm in the Youth Room. This an opportunity for people to gather for a time of study and prayer. Invite a friend!

Upcoming Dates to Note:
Aug 10-17 - Pathfinder Camporee @ Oshkosh
Sept 6 - Parking Lot Party
Sept 21 - Health Fair

AUS is in search of hiring a Kindergarten teacher and a Secretary for this coming school year.  If anyone is interested call Principal Terry Tryon at (323) 807-5372.  The Secretary position offer is for 2 hrs each morning from 8-10, M-F.

The message on August 9th is “Who Are We #10: Spiritual Gifts.” We believe that God’s people are to be led by the Holy Spirit.  When we are spirit led, God will give us special gifts to help us function in the manner in which God created us.  We also believe in the spirit of prophecy as an important gift for our understanding of end time events, and our church was blessed with the ministry of Ellen White as someone with that gift.

Flowers today are from the Gonzalez family for Kelly’s birthday.
