Message Notes

All The Time God is Great

So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. Ephesians 4:17

Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed. Ephesians 4:19

That, however, is not the way of life you learned when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. Ephesians 4:20-21

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God-this is your true and proper worship. Romans 12:1

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds;  and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:22-24

Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body. Ephesians 4:25

Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.  Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Ephesians 4:28-29

Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Philippians 2:1-2

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. Philippians 2:3-4

Welcome to the Downey Adventist Church!

Welcome! We worship in the name of our creative God, our all-loving Savior and the rejuvenating Spirit. Amen.

This Morning the message is God's Rest for His People. Paul of the New Testament wrote, "for somewhere he has spoken about the seventh day in these words: "On the seventh day God rested from all his works" (Hebrews 4:4). The Sabbath is certainly not just for the people of Israel as it was something for Christians to experience as well. This Sabbath, we will be reminded of the blessings that God has for us as we rest in Him.

Next Week the message is Mother's Love. The closest comparison of God's love for us may be compared to a mother's love for her child. The prophet Isaiah  writes, "as one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you (Isaiah 66:13).  For this Sabbath, we will honor our mothers who have shown us what it means to be loved and to be cared for throughout our lives.

Our Abundant Giving project for April is Adventist Union School. AUS has a wonderful field and playground for the children. We are going to help raise money for bark for the playground. Our goal for the month is $2000. There are 5 weeks in April, so that's only $400 a week. If we can raise more than that, that would be awesome. To cover all the needed areas of the playground we would need to raise at least double that amount.
Let's help AUS keep the children safe on the playground.
Total Raised: $1310

Mother's Day Sabbath and Breakfast is next week. Come out for light breakfast from 8 to 9:15 am. We will have a small token of our appreciation for all our women during the Worship Service. Invite your Mom.

The message on May 14 is All the Time God is Great. It is easier to be a Christian when we are in church, but what about in our workplaces or schools?  This message will reflect on how to not only let God into every aspect of our lives, it will teach us on how your life can prevail when you let your faith be known where ever you are?

AUS Spring Festival is Sunday, May 1 from 10am to 4pm. Come on out and support AUS! Plus the Downey Pathfinders will have a booth at the festival. So you can support our Pathfinders and AUS! A Win-Win.

Welcome to the Downey Adventist Church!

Welcome to worship, Christian education and fellowship in the name of Jesus, the Savior of the world.

This Morning the message is Nothing Can Separate Us. This Sabbath, we study God's limitless love for us. Paul asks the question that with God interceding, who can separate us from the love of Christ (Romans 8:35). We understand that no matter how much we fall, God will never stop loving us.

Next Week the message is If You Love Him. For our final small group sermon, we will follow the verses of John 21:15-25. During the time that Peter was asked by Jesus if he loved him, Jesus revealed to Peter that the prove of his love for Jesus was shown by Peter's willingness to feed Christ's sheep. God's love for us was always meant to be shared.

After lunch on Celebration Sabbath we will be hosting the Outreach Olympics.  There will be opportunities for everyone to join in an outreach event. A group is going to the nursing home, the prayer booth will be up at church, some folks will be holding signs along the street, another group is passing out flyers inviting people to our Easter service and one group will be writing some cards in the fellowship hall. So regardless of your abilities to walk or stand, there is an opportunity for you to help out. Make plans to join us!

Celebration Sabbath is coming. Sign up in foyer to bring some yummy Mexican food to share in foyer. After lunch, we'll have different opportunities to reach the community. Plan on staying on March 19.

Sign up for Flowers! There are some dates left for flowers. You can help the church look beautiful during worship. Sign ups are in the foyer.

Downey's Got Talent and Dinner was a great time. We made $730 for the church beautification fund. Thank you to everyone who came out a supported the program. Also a big thanks to Maggie and Evelyn who organized and cooked for the evening.

March 19th is Celebration Sabbath. This worship service will be an uplifting testimonial time. Each of our small groups will share how the study of God's unconditional love had impacted them. Our church always looks forward to these Sabbaths which also includes a fellowship luncheon afterwards.

Upcoming Events
Mar. 19 - Celebration Sabbath
Mar. 19 - Fellowship Luncheon @ 12:30pm
Mar. 19 - Outreach Olympics
Mar. 26 - Easter Sabbath
Mar. 27 - Easter

The flowers are for Tomas and Hatzuko's birthday and anniversary.
